Notes
Williams belonged to the 3rd Battalion (militia) at the start of the war - which he joined on 20 December 1938 - and worked for the Attorney-General's Department. He joined the militia because the Solicitor-General, Sir George Knowles, turned up at work one day and suggested all the young men volunteer for part time service given the deteriorating international situation. Williams entered camp with 3 Battalion on 1 March 1941 but was released to enlist in the RAAF which he did on 26 April 1942. According to his militia records, Williams was born in 1920 and not 1922 as appears on the nominal roll.
Description - height 5 feet 9.5 inches, weight 138 pounds, chest 33.5 - 36.5 inches.
