Notes

Welch was the son of Roland and Margaret Welch and grew up at Duntroon where his father worked as a clerk. He enlisted in January 1942 in Sydney and served with the 58th Field Park Company in Lae New Guinea during 1944 and with the 58th Field Park Company in Port Moresby and Rabaul during 1945 as a welder. He died in Sydney in November 2001 aged 88 years.
