Notes
Jack Waters served with the NSW Bushmen. On his return he was given a welcome home at Queanbeyan in June 1901 where he said "that they had seen a good bit of South Africa and had a rough trip through to Mafeking, unfortunately arriving a few hours too late to help in its relief. They went 300 miles on half rations" and of 500 horses they took with them 300 had died. He described travelling two days in bullock wagons with only biscuits and jam to eat and "very bad" water to drink. He served "under Generals Babbington, Douglas and Methuen" and was at the capture of de la Rey's convoy."
His family lived at River Street, Oaks Estate. Waters died in 1958 at Long Jetty NSW.
