Notes
Turner was mobilised as a schoolboy on 13 August 1941 as a Private in the Transport Platoon of the 3rd Battalion (militia) though he was not called up until 5 January 1942. He arrived in Port Moresby with his unit in May 1942 where he enlisted in the AIF and was attached to the 14th Infantry Brigade Headquarters. Turner served in Papua until January 1943 when he returned to Australia. He transferred to the 2/3rd Battalion but was detached to 6th Division Headquarters in February 1944 to serve as a batman. Turner served in the Aitape, New Guinea area from October 1944 until the end of the war. His father, Harry and brother, Clarence both served in World War 2.
