Notes

As a boy Tully decided to be known as 'Jim' because both his father and grandfather were named David. Tully's father was a grazier in the Coppins Crossing district when he was born though the family moved to Kingston in the early 1940s. He joined the RAAF in 1951 and trained at Wagga Wagga. He served for short periods in the Vietnam theatre of war, twice with 36 Squadron during 1966 and eight times with 37 Squadron between September 1967 and September 1970. Both units were transport squadrons flying Hercules aircraft from Richmond air base near Sydney. He retired from the air force in 1971 as a Flight Engineer and went to work for Cathay Pacific Airlines in Hong Kong from 1972 to 1992. Jim Tully retired to Forster in New South Wales in 1992 and died in June 2011 aged 75 years.
