Notes

Charlton was working in the plan printing section of the Property and Survey Branch of the Department of Interior when he enlisted in June 1941 in the RAAF. He was on a test flight in a Wackett Trainer aircraft on 31 December 1941, and flying low when his plane struck trees and crashed at Brewster near Beaufort in Victoria at 8.45am. Charlton was buried in Ballarat New General Cemetery.
