Notes

An Englishman, Bradshaw had served two years as an apprentice electrical engineer but worked as a shorthand/ typist clerk with the Department of Home Affairs in Canberra before the war. He was present at the foundation and naming ceremony for Canberra on 12 March 1913 and suffered the ignominy of breaking his arm in a horse riding accident on the Weetangerra Road. Bradshaw enlisted on 22 October 1915 at Holsworthy and was quickly promoted to Corporal. He embarked overseas in November 1915 with the 5th Squadron, 2nd Remount Unit but transferred to the Australian Army Pay Corps in February 1916. On arriving in France in August 1916 he was transferred to the AIF Records Section in Rouen where he was appointed to the rank of Lance Sergeant. He spent 10 months in England being treated for an ulcerated tonsil before returning to Rouen. He was demobilised in London on 20 January 1919 and does not appear to have returned to Australia.
