Notes
Bain worked as a customs officer in the Division of Import Procurement before enlisting in the army on 7 October 1942 as a Gunner with the 2 Australian Artillery Training Regiment. He was discharged on 24 June 1943 and the next day enlisted in the RAAF. In late 1943 he was sent to Canada to train with the Empire Air Training Scheme and in May 1945 he joined 466 Squadron in England.
466 Squadron was part of Bomber Command and by 1945 was flying Halifax bombers on raids over Germany.
