Notes

Because he was under 21 years of age Locke needed parental permission to enlist. On his application to enlist, dated 13 September 1915, he gave his address as 'Williamsdale' and parents as George and Annie Locke of Williamsdale. He enlisted with Harold Gibbs who was also from Williamsdale. Locke was farewelled at the Royal Hotel, Bungendore in February 1916 and embarked the next month for Egypt where he joined the 2nd Double Squadron at Serapeum. He was hospitalised in August 1916 with "cardiac dilatation" and a medical board hearing found that Locke was anaemic and suffering from general debility. He was discharged medically unfit on 18 January 1917.

Locke married Katie Nash of Pine Valley via Bungendore in August 1918. He died on 18 February 1965, aged 67 years, and is buried in the ex-servicemen's portion of the Woden Cemetery.
