Notes
Rose was a labourer recruited at Queanbeyan whilst living at Canberra. After enlisting in October 1914 he embarked for Egypt in February 1915. In May 1915 he landed on Gallipoli and joined the 1st Battalion. In July he transferred to the Engineers and was taken on strength with the 2nd Field Company Engineers as a Sapper in August 1915. He was wounded in the head and ear by a bomb a few days later and evacuated to Mudros and then to Cairo for treatment. He returned to Australia in January 1916 for six months change but was discharged on 5 April 1916.
Later that year he married Geraldine Thompson. They had at least one son, Edward William Rose, who was born in Canberra in 1920 and served in the Royal Australian Navy during World War 2 and the Korean War. Rose later lived in the Leichhardt district of Sydney where he died on 5 December 1940.
