Notes
Gerald Potter arrived in Canberra in about 1913. He was initially employed as a steward at the Bachelors Quarters in Acton but moved to the Royal Military College in August 1915. He embarked for overseas in March 1916 as a Private with the 10th reinforcements to the 20th Battalion. He joined the 20th Battalion in France in July 1916 but received a gun shot wound to his right arm at Pozieres in early August. He was treated in England and rejoined his unit in December 1916. He was wounded in action a second time on 3 May 1917 at the Second Battle of Bullecourt with a gun shot wound to the right thigh and shoulder. Again he was transferred to England for treatment and rejoined his unit in November 1917. He was killed in action on 31 August 1918 during an attack made by his battalion on the German position at Mont St. Quentin, near Peronne when he was hit by a piece of shell.
Description - height 5 feet 6 inches, weight 144 pounds, chest 38 inches, dark complexion, blue eyes, dark brown hair, Catholic.
