Notes

Jimmy Muir grew up in the Tidbinbilla/ Uriarra area until at least 1902 when his father died accidentally, sometime after which the family moved to Barrack Burn near Queanbeyan. Muir was known as a gun-shearer, working at properties such as 'Tuggeranong' and 'Lanyon' as well as for Richard Moore and Everard Crace of 'Gungahleen'. His grandfather, Archie McIntyre, worked for the Cunningham family for many years. Muir served in Palestine with the 2nd Light Horse Brigade Machine Gun Squadron as a Driver. He returned to Australia in March 1919 with an injured toe and was discharged on 3 June 1919. In 1920 he was allocated a 555 acre soldier settlers block, 105b in Pialligo, which was known as 'Honeysuckle' and where Muir lived with his wife Hazel (nee Neale), whom he married in 1920. He died on 5 July 1980 and is buried in the Tharwa Road Cemetery. His brothers William and John also served in World War 1.

Description - height 5 feet 9 inches, weight 146 pounds, chest 34-36 ½ , fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, Church of England, unmarried, scar on left oxilla, outer ends both collar bones prominent (old injury).
