Notes

Bell came from Richmond, near Sydney and enlisted and had his medical at Duntroon on 6 October 1916. He arrived in France in December 1917 and served with the 56th Battalion on the Somme. In September 1918 he was wounded in action at Péronne with a gun shot wound to the left ankle resulting in a fractured tibula and repatriation to Australia. On 15 December 1919 he was discharged in Sydney.

Description - height 5 feet 5½ inches, weight 138 pounds, chest 34-37 inches, fresh complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, Church of England, tattoos on his left and right forearms.
