Notes

Upcroft was a member of F Company, 3rd Battalion (militia) prior to enlisting in the AIF in Canberra in October 1939. He arrived in Kantara, Egypt with the 2/3rd Battalion in January 1940 and by October that year had been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In January 1941 the 2/3rd Battalion fought at Bardia and Tobruk in Libya before being sent to Greece in March 1941 to confront the Germans. However Upcroft became a prisoner of war and was sent to Stalag XVIIIA in Germany and later Stalag 383 from where he was recovered in May 1945 and repatriated to Australia in August. By 1959 Upcroft was living in Coogee in Sydney. He died in Narrabeen, Sydney on 29 August 1989.
