Wylie was a National Serviceman who was with 1 Australian Reinforcement Unit from 15 October 1966 in Vietnam until allocated to 5RAR on 30 November 1966. His tour of Vietnam finished on 12 May 1967.
The AWM reference is to a captured Viet Cong flag signed by members of 8 Platoon, C Company, 5RAR including Wylie. The flag was captured on 27 December 1966 when the platoon entered a Viet Cong bunker complex in the Nui Dinh hills.
