Notes
Joe Wilson embarked from Sydney in December 1940 and arrived in Haifa, in modern-day Israel, on 31 January 1941. He transferred to the Australian Army Medical Corps Training Wing at the end of May 1941 and was involved in convoy work in Egypt with the 1st Australian Corps Ammunition Park over the next few months. Wilson was then promoted to Corporal and detached to the 2/43 Battalion and served with them at Tobruk and El Alamein. He returned to Australia in early 1943 and was discharged on 2 September 1943. Wilson died on 12 August 1984 and was buried in Woden Cemetery. The Canberra Times article of 1966 includes an image of Wilson at a Rats of Tobruk ceremony in Canberra.
