Eric Scott was a Sergeant with the 3rd Battalion Militia unit before enlisting. He was farewelled from Canberra just before his 18th birthday as he was leaving for England to join the Royal Air Force. He trained at Peterborough in England and during the war served as a fighter pilot with 616 Squadron of the RAF. He died on 4 June 1940 when his Spitfire crashed during the evacuation of troops from Dunkirk, France. His father was for some years head gardener at Government House. His older brother Alastair also served in World War 2.
