Notes
Reg Andrew was the brother of Donald Andrew. After attaining his Intermediate Certificate from Canberra High School, Andrew undertook an apprenticeship as an electrical fitter with the Department of the Interior and was in his fourth year when he enlisted in the RAAF in 1941. Andrew was mustered as a Wireless Maintenance Mechanic after completing his training and sent to Queensland. He married Mary Fitzpatrick, who was also serving with the RAAF, in Townsville on 10 August 1943 shortly before embarking for Goodenough Island in New Guinea. He served there with 12 Repair & Salvage Unit (12R&SU), on Kiriwina in the Trobriand Islands near Milne Bay from March 1944 and at Tadji, near Aitape on the north coast of New Guinea, from May 1944 until he returned to Australia four months later. Due to a shortage of qualified electrical fitters, the Department of Works requested that Andrew be discharged and he returned to Canberra to work. Andrew later lived in Ainslie with his family. He died on 3 July 2019.
