Notes
Amey worked for the Forestry Commission before he was mobilised on 22 October 1941 with the 3rd Battalion (militia) and marched into camp in January 1942. He embarked for Port Moresby in May 1942 but a bout of diptheria meant that he missed joining his unit when they entered the Kokoda trail in September 1942. He returned to Australia in August 1943 and transferred to the 2/1 Australian CRE Forestry Unit in March 1944. Amey arrived in Lae, New Guinea in September 1944 where he spent two months in hospital with dengue fever. In 1945 he was sent to Morotai and ended the war with the 2/3 Forestry Company. He married Lyla Shannon in February 1946 shortly after he returned home and they lived in Queanbeyan.
