Notes

Lloyd was born at Burrawang near Bowral. He served with the 3rd Infantry Battalion (a militia unit also known as the Werriwa Regiment) and arrived in Port Moresby in May 1942. On 5 September 1942 they entered the Kokoda Track and took part in the Australian defence at Imita Ridge and Ioribaiwa. Thereafter 3 Battalion patrolled forward through Menari, Efogi and Kagi towards Templetons Crossing.

Lloyd was a forward scout on a patrol that left Efogi on 9 October 1942 probing for the Japanese along the track to Kagi and Templetons Crossing. On the afternoon of 11 October 1942 the patrol met the Japanese between Kagi and Templetons Crossing and during the ensuing fire fight Lloyd and another 3rd Battalion soldier were killed. His 20th birthday was on 9 October and his last letter home spoke of how he was looking forward to the birthday cake his parents had sent him.
