Notes
Sparrow entered the Royal Military College, Duntroon in February 1915 and graduated at the end of 1917 when he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in a Special Draft of RMC graduates which arrived in England in April 1918. He joined the 16th Battalion in France in July 1918 just before the final major offensive of the war involving the AIF, along the Somme valley. That began on 8 August and Sparrow was wounded, shot in the right arm (which fractured) and buttock. He arrived back in Australia in February 1919. Sparrow served in World War 2 as a Staff Officer. He died in Melbourne in 1965.
