Notes
Hugh Marsland entered the Royal Military College, Duntroon with the first intake of cadets in June 1911 but was discharged from RMC in 1912 for failing to meet the required standards for advancement to the second class. He served on Gallipoli and in the Sinai and Palestine with the 11th Light Horse Regiment. He was awarded the Military Cross for his work at Beersheba in October 1917 and during the following weeks. Marsland returned to Australia and his appointment was terminated on 11 March 1920. The AWM image shows Marsland practising artillery shooting during a camp. He served in World War 2 and died in Queensland in 1969.
