Notes
Lindsay entered the Royal Military College, Duntroon with the first intake of cadets on 22 June 1911 but he was discharged at the end of 1912 for insufficient progress with his studies. He enlisted as a soldier in May 1914 and was appointed as a Sergeant in the Army Service Corps. Lindsay embarked served on Gallipoli with the Divisional Supply Column until evacuated to Malta in October 1915 with jaundice. Early in 1916 he was promoted to Lieutenant but in France that year he was hospitalised with several illnesses including a serious case of pneumonia. In October 1918 he began training as a pilot but returned to Australia the following year. During World War 2 he served as a Lieutenant with the Bulk Issue Petrol and Oil Depot.
