Notes

Thompson entered the Royal Military College, Duntroon on 12 March 1914 and graduated on 31 December 1917. He was appointed a Lieutenant the following day and left Australia with a Special Draft of RMC graduates, disembarking in Liverpool in April 1918. He served in France from October 1918 with the 1st Siege Battery, 36th Heavy Artillery Brigade. In July 1919 he resigned his commission to serve with the British Army for a year. In World War 2 he served in Darwin.
