Notes
Wells entered the Royal Military College, Duntroon on 12 March 1914 in the fourth intake of cadets and graduated on 3 April 1916. He embarked for England in June 1916 as a Lieutenant with the 11th Machine Gun Company and arrived in France in November 1916. He was wounded in a mustard gas attack near Passchendaele in November 1917 but recovered and returned to France where he was appointed a Captain with the 3rd Machine Gun Battalion. Wells also served in World War 2. He died in Melbourne in 1963 aged 66 years.
