He graduated on 28 June 1915 and was appointed as a Lieutenant three days later, sailing for Egypt in November 1915 as a Lieutenant with the 11th Battery, 4th Field Artillery Brigade. He transferred to the 23rd Field Artillery Brigade in July 1916 and was appointed as a Captain shortly afterwards. He arrived in France in January 1917 and was posted to the 7th Field Artillery Brigade. Following the battles around Bullecourt in April and May 1917, Peart was sent for training as a Brigade Major and then posted to the 4th Battery, 2nd Field Artillery Brigade in September 1917 with the rank of Major. On 2 November 1917 he was admitted to the 2nd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station suffering from gas poisoning and he died there the following day. Peart was buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium in plot 21, row EE, grave 4.
