Notes

Smith was a Tasmanian, who worked in Canberra with the Department of Commerce and Agriculture, and played football for Canberra Rovers. He was mobilised on 22 July 1939 but didn't commence full-time duty with the 3rd Battalion (militia) until 1 October 1941 and was appointed as a Lieutenant in April 1942. Smith served in Papua from September 1942 until January 1943 when he returned home suffering malaria. He enlisted in the AIF on 20 September 1943 by which time he was with the 2/6 Battalion. Smith suffered concussion in a traffic accident in February 1944 near Cairns and in October 1944 he became an instructor with the Mortar Wing 2 Spec Group. He married after the war and lived with his family in Yarralumla. Smith died on 14 May 2013.
