Notes

Swadling first enlisted in October 1914 with the 7th Light Horse Regiment but was discharged as medically unfit in August 1916 with tuberculosis. He moved to Canberra and got a job as a groom at the Royal Military College before enlisting a second time in Seymour, Victoria in May 1917. He was hospitalised with influenza after arriving in England and returned to Australia in July 1918. He did not see service on the Western Front.
