Notes

Howe was based at Fairbairn and served with 77 Squadron in Korea from 2 October 1950 until 3 September 1951 flying a Mustang and Gloster Meteor. He was awarded the US Air Medal, for meritorious service during "sustained air operations", by the Commanding General of the 5th Air Force, USAF in Japan in 1951. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for "initiative, daring and skill above the average" during 76 operational missions in support of the United Nations forces in Korea. His leadership was "exemplary and an inspiration to his fellow squadron members." He received his medal at a ceremony at Government House in May 1952.

77 Squadron was based at Iwakuni in Japan when it was called into action in Korea, finally being based at Kimpo, South Korea. They flew Mustangs until July 1951 when they were re-equipped with Meteor jets.
