Notes

Cross was employed at the Royal Military College, Duntroon as a groom from July 1913 until July 1923 (excluding his war service). He and his wife Helen also ran a boarding house near Duntroon. Cross was an Imperial Reservist and was called up when the war began. He sailed for England on the 'Miltiades' on 17 October 1914 and served with the 127th Battery of the Royal Field Artillery on the Western Front. During 1915 to 1918 they fought at Ypres, the Somme, Arras and Hazebrouck.

After the war he returned to Canberra and lived at the Causeway and Ainslie. He also served in World War 2 giving his year of birth as 1884. He died at home on 14 January 1962 aged 79 years and is buried in Woden Cemetery.
