Notes
Sumner was working as a groom at the Royal Military College from 1913 until he enlisted in August 1914. He served with the 1st Light Horse Regiment Headquarters on Gallipoli and at Romani in the Sinai during July and August 1916 but left for Australia in September 1916 suffering from piles and was discharged medically unfit on 9 January 1917.
