Notes

James Stewart was the younger brother of Dave Stewart and was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He was also a plumber and worked with his father and brother around Canberra. He enlisted in November 1916 as a Sapper and served with the 1st Field Company Engineers in Belgium from November 1917 and then the 1st Army Troop Company of Engineers from January 1918. After the armistice he worked in the Jermond workshops and then was given leave for non military employment in Glasgow before returning to Australia and being discharged on 23 December 1919. He married Margaret Stamford from Duntroon in 1921 and moved to Sydney where he was in a plumbing business with his father and brother. He also served in World War 2 as a Lieutenant in the Royal Australian Engineers. He died on 22 October 1963 in Sydney.

Description - height 5 feet 8 inches, weight 128 pounds, chest 33-36 inches, fresh complexion, brown eyes, brown hair, Presbyterian.
