Notes

George Ray was employed as a groom at the Royal Military College, Duntroon from March 1915 until he enlisted in October 1915 in Sydney, though he is mentioned in the local press as early as 1911 (in connection with the Federal City Cricket Club) and in 1913 as working on the railways. He served with the Australian Army Service Corps in France from June 1916 until transferred to England for treatment for piles in September 1916 and the next year, with measles. He returned to France in May 1918, then back to Australia in October 1919 for discharge.
