Notes

McClafferty's father was a blacksmith at Yarralumla for many years before moving his business to Queanbeyan. McClafferty served as a Private with the 2nd Battalion in France from April 1917 including at the Second Battle of Bullecourt in May 1917. In October that year he was detached for duty with the Brigade Fuzing Squad and was then wounded by shrapnel in the back in November 1917 near Passchendaele. After recovering he returned to the 2nd Battalion at Hazebrouck in France in April 1918 and they fought in the major battles along the Somme and the Hindenburg Line during August and September 1918. He returned to Australia in July 1919 and was discharged in August 1919. He married Jane Heffernan in Sydney in 1916 and died there in 1941.

Description - height 5 feet 8 inches, weight 140 pounds, chest 33-35½ inches, dark complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, Catholic.
