Notes

Kelly worked as a field assistant to the surveyor Robert Rain in the Territory prior to the war. He enlisted in Newcastle and served with the 4th Pioneer Battalion travelling to England via the Panama Canal and Nova Scotia and arriving in France in April 1918. In June he was detached for duty with the 4th Australian Division Headquarters. He returned to Australia in May 1919 and was discharged on 2 June 1919.
