Notes

Gorst was an Englishman who worked as a clerk at the Royal Military College, Duntroon in 1913 and 1914. He had fought in the Boer War with the Pretoria Northern Rifles and enlisted in Sydney on 27 April 1915, serving with the 3rd General Hospital in Abbeville, France. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in June 1917 and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal "in recognition of valuable service rendered with the Armies in France and Flanders". He returned to Australia in June 1919 and moved to Queensland where he married Christina Riddel in 1933. Gorst died in Brisbane on 23 February 1968 and was interred at the Albany Creek Memorial Park.
