Notes
William Corkhill (or Corkill) attested that he was a 43 year old seaman from the Isle of Man. However, he was baptised at Maughold on 10 November 1867 and had lowered his age when he enlisted on 10 January 1916 at Casula, New South Wales. He had served for 12½ years with the Royal Naval Reserve and on embarking for overseas in May 1916 gave his address as 'Canberra'. This is possibly because his brother Robert Corkhill was a farmer at Yarralumla.
He was hospitalised with rhinitis and arrived in France in November 1916 on the front line near Armentierres. He was wounded in the chest on 22 January 1917 and admitted to No.2 Casualty Clearing Station with "cardiac perforating lung". He was transferred to the 13th General Hospital in Boulogne but died from his wounds on 6 February 1917.
