Notes
Bambury was born near Tharwa in 1896 where his parents ran the post office and the punt across the Murrumbidgee River. He was a carpenter who enlisted on 1 September 1915 with the 1st Field Company Engineers raising his age to 21 years probably to avoid the necessity of getting parental permission. He arrived in France in March 1916 and served there and in Belgium until he returned to Australia and was discharged on 9 July 1919. His brothers Alwyn and Roland also served in World War 1. He was living in Sefton in Sydney when he died on 9 July 1979 - 60 years to the day after his discharge. He was the brother-in-law of Charlie Cruickshank with whom he served in the war.
