Notes

Adams was the son of a Tasmanian judge and was employed as an assistant surveyor and draftsman in the Lands and Survey Branch of the Department of Home Affairs from 1 October 1913 working with Percy Sheaffe and Arthur Percival. He was a foundation member of the Canberra Rifle Club in May 1914 and its first treasurer. When he enlisted in September 1915 he was working for the Metropolitan Board of Water Supply and Sewerage in Sydney. Before the war he had served with the Australian Intelligence Corps and because of his experience he qualified as a 2nd Lieutenant. Adams arrived in France in June 1916 with the 13th Battalion but shortly afterwards was seconded for duty with the 4th Training Battalion in England. He rejoined his Battalion in France in May 1917 but fell ill two months later and returned to Australia where he was struck off strength in September 1917. His first wife died in 1923 and he then married Isabella Carlile, daughter of Sir Edward Carlile KC and Lady Carlile and herself a nurse during the war, on 18 May 1925. Adams was living in Sydney when he died on 10 November 1967.
