Notes
Moon joined the central office of the Department of Trade and Customs in April 1935. He entered camp with the 3rd Battalion (militia) on 1 October 1941. The following February he was appointed as an acting Sergeant and embarked with his unit in May 1942, landing in Port Moresby, Papua on 27 May. Moon was hospitalised with mumps in June 1942 but recovered in time to join his unit on detachment to Maroubra Force. Moon belonged to D Company of 3 Battalion and entered the Kokoda Track on 8 September 1942. They fought the Japanese at Ioribaiwa and Imita until the end of September by which time the enemy had begun to retreat. The 3rd Battalion was involved in vigorous patrolling after the Japanese but Moon was sent back down the track and hospitalised with dysentery on 2 October. Thereafter he was attached to Accounts Offices in New Guinea, Queensland and the Northern Territory until his discharge in 1945. Moon died on 5 February 2000 and was cremated at Norwood Park in Mitchell.
Description - height 5 feet 9 inches, weight 173 pounds, chest 39.5-43 inches, medium complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair, scars on the inside of his left leg and the outside of his right leg.
