Notes
Gladwin was mobilised in April 1940 and served with the 3rd Battalion militia. He was sent to Port Moresby, Papua in May 1942 and entered the Kokoda Track in September 1942. The 3rd fought the Japanese at Ioribaiwa and Imita Ridge before advancing along the Kokoda Track where further battles took place at Templetons Crossing, Eora and Oivi. The final phase of the campaign involving 3 Battalion was at Gona on the north coast of Papua where Gladwin was wounded but remained on duty.
Gladwin returned to Australia in January 1943 and was transferred to 36 Battalion in May. He was sent to New Guinea in July 1943 where he suffered several bouts of malaria before returning to Australia on leave in August 1944. His final overseas posting was for three months in New Britain from October 1944. He died on 10 January 2002 and is buried in Woden Cemetery.
