Notes
Donald Edward Andrew served in 75 Squadron, piloting Kittyhawks and with 12 Squadron flying Wirraways. He flew in 85 operations over New Guinea and the Dutch East Indies and was reported missing in action in October 1944. He was part of a patrol sweeping the coast of Ceram when he became seaprated in thick cloud over Miscol Island and had to parachute to safety. Two days later was reported safe and in hospital. In 1945 he was flying a Kittyhawk from Morotai in operations against Japanese fuel dumps near Goeroea. The 1943 Canberra Times report, which refers to him as T.E. Andrew, states that he was then based at 5 FTS Uranquinty as an instructor. He was awarded the US Air medal in 1948.
He was the brother of Reginald Andrew and, according to his nomination, lived in Coranderrk Street, Reid. Donald Andrew died in August 1972 and is buried in Sydney NSW.
